Keri Jones visits the city of Girona in the Catalonia region of Northwest Spain.

Girona offers the stylish dining and the superb tapas options that visitors expect of nearby Barcelona, but Girona is more affordable and less crowded than the Catalan capital. Views of the city have featured heavily in TV’s Game of Thrones. Fans of film and TV will also find the city’s cinema museum fascinating. It is filled with movie props and costumers. Keri also walks around the city’s formidable, ancient walls and tours the cathedral that boasts one of the world’s widest naves. The ancient Jewish quarter also features in the programme. It was hidden away from public view until the 1970s.

Also This Week…

Cities like Prague, Budapest and Warsaw are now very familiar with British travellers, but there are still places in Eastern Europe that have remained off the tourist trail. One of those is Minsk, the capital of Belarus. Keri spoke to Clare Collins from travel company Explore, who organise trips to the city. There’s also an added bonus – a trip to see wild wolves in one of their last strongholds in Europe. The capital of Belarus, like stepping back behind the iron curtain.

The Northwest US city of Seattle is probably best known for Starbucks Coffee, the grunge band Nirvana and its iconic 1960’s tower, the Space Needle. But it actually has some of the best museums and art galleries in the country. Keri spoke to Tracey Wickersham from the city’s tourism office about why you can expect to see.

Keri spoke to author and walking tour operator Denis Roubien about the Greek isle of Tinos. The island is famous for its spectacular birdhouses. Dennis explained that before nearby islands such as Mykonos and Santorini had a huge tourism boom, Tinos was the place to visit.
