To see out 2015 we’re going to take you way back to the ’70s – to the days when Soul was morphing into what we today call Funk. And to all those great dance numbers – Car Wash, Shaft, Get Down on it, Pick up the Pieces – Good Times.
It was the sound-track that lit the way, influencing the masters of the post-punk era Michael Jackson, Talking Heads, the B-52s and so on. If you’re too young to remember – now’s your chance to figure out what you’ve been missing all these years!
Popular headliners Soular will take you back there, back to when the slick melodic bass grooves filled dance floors. This band are the masters of that great sound – they are as tight as two coats of paint on a cruisin’ Mustang. So, dancing shoes very much at the ready please… and start remembering those Saturday Night Fever moves.
Soular are fronted by Verity Smith, an award winning soul diva and musical theatre UK based performer and session singer. Verity has performed in theatre shows, leading a band and solo; she has entertained thousands at festivals as well as starring in a number of touring musical theatre productions including: high profile gigs with the Joliet Blues Band; and a lead part in Clive Nolan’s ‘She’ in Germany and Holland (in February) – and also in ‘Alchemy’ in the Jermyn St Theatre in the West-End!
So, glide into your stride and a dip at the hip with the stylish, dance inspired sounds of one of the most energetic and engaging party bands working the pro circuit today. Soular serve up a smorgasbord of classic and contemporary funk, soul and disco standards with an essential added something. Laying it on you like it’s hot – the only way they know how.
Indeed, they have stardust aplenty to put the sparkle into any big occasion with a classic repertoire of scorching cuts from the halcyon days of the funk generation – Chic, James Brown, Chaka Khan, Sister Sledge, Nile Rodgers and Diana Ross. Irresistible if you want to dance, groove or just be entertained. These gloriously talented musical magpies always deliver a cool, sophisticated and sexy mood with a solid-gold set of shameless party stompers.
